English Tuition
Having worked as a professional linguist for many years, I am passionate about
supporting learners to develop their English literacy and communication skills.

National 5 English
There are many reasons why a young person might need extra help with National 5 English. They may be dyslexic. They may be a literal thinker who struggles to grasp abstract concepts. They might just not enjoy English and find it hard to concentrate in class. Studying English can be a stressful and demoralising experience at school.
Whatever your own child's situation, I am here to support them. I cover all aspects of the National 5 English exam: RUAE (close reading), the Scottish set text and critical essay writing, ensuring that my students are fully prepared for both papers.

Higher English
The Higher English course is structured in the same way as National 5 English, but the level of challenge increases significantly. Students are required to analyse language in greater depth and produce writing of a higher standard. I will help your child to improve their English comprehension, analysis and writing skills, keeping them focused and motivated as they progress through the Higher English course.
History Tuition
History was my favourite subject at school and the natural choice for my undergraduate degree. To keep my skills sharp, I am currently studying part-time for a Master’s degree in Scottish History. I love exploring different historical topics with my students and teaching them to think analytically and critically about the past.
National 5 History
With a lot of content to learn, and six question types to master, even students that really enjoy the subject can find National 5 History challenging. I will help your child to acquire the knowledge required for the exam, identifying and addressing any gaps in their learning. We will also work on the different question types so that they understand how to maximise their marks on the day. As the exam approaches, we will focus on past paper practice.

Higher History
For success in Higher History, your child needs to be able to write well-structured analytical essays, demonstrating depth of understanding and strong evaluative skills. I will help your child to master essay writing, working in line with the marking criteria set by Qualifications Scotland. I will also work with your child on the ‘source’ questions for the Scottish History paper, providing targeted practice to strengthen any areas of weakness.

I also understand how difficult the school environment can be for ASN students and how this impacts on confidence, mental wellbeing, and academic performance.
